A day for scootching!
YAY! Today Taylor finally showed some interest in scootching! We put our hands behind her and she pushed off them a little bit! This is pretty exciting for us, as we were worried for a while! We all played in the play room today and Taylor did very well, talking, moving about and enjoying herself. Tony seems so big next to little Taylor!
We met a new family today, Mike and Jennifer from Canada. They are on day two and are very nice. Thier little boy is adorable and from Taylors room! I think Taylor may have crush as she was looking his way a lot today!
Well, not much to say, just some pictures!

I've been enjoying following your blog. Taylor is so cute. We adopted 2 kids from the same baby house last year. I wouldn't worry too much about Taylor's size or lack of movement. Our son was about the same age when we met him, also small, didn't make much noise and didn't really seem to have much interest in moving, unless music was on. Now, he's 80% for height, learned to walk at 13 mo and started running 2 weeks later and hasn't stopped since and is the loudest, most "talkative" kid in our family (and that's really saying something because the other 2 are never quiet!). Hope you're enjoying your time in Astana. We really liked it there in the summer. Plus there were lots of good restaurants to try.

Hi!
I too have been following your journey. We, like the McGills, were in Astana last June/July and enjoyed every minute. (Well, almost:)We adopted our little boy Jonathan and he has adjusted beautifully and is very healthy and happy. He was 8 months and could barely sit up and was walking by his birthday. A lot of love and just one on one time does wonders for them. You'll be amazed. Anyway, just wanted to give you a dining option if you want someplace nice to celebrate. It is called East/West and is just across the bridge-directly across from the park. It has Italian, Kazak and I think French food if I remember correctly-all with English menus-but anyway, it was GREAT and I just remember wishing we had tried it sooner, so I thought I would pass it along.
Enjoy your time in Astana. I was also going to tell you we found some need souvenirs at the Hyatt Hotel gift shop of all places. We found seven little figurines that we will start giving our son as soon as he turns of age to realize their meaning but they are all representative of different virtues-i.e.-Love, Wisdom, etc etc and have a Kazak story. They had several other cool things like Kazak pottery that also made nice gifts or souvenirs. Well, anyway, just wanted to say hello, wish you all the best and enjoy!! It has been a year and I wish we were back there again. Take care!

Yay for scootching! :) Time seems to be flying by; hopefully it seems that way on your end and you'll be home with your daughter before you know it!
Hi Maegan- Enjoyed your pictures of Astana- it has changed greatly since we were there in June 2000. Sounds like one thing hasn't changed- the heat! It was so hot when we were there- and not dry heat either.
My wife wrote a comment on your message when you first arrived. We were hoping you could let the Dr (Dr. Alma is still there so I am told) know our daughter Alia is doing really well after her heart surgery. She has her own blog at howsalia.blogspot.com , and we would love for you to pass along that inormation to the Dr so she can pass it along to the "Mamas" that took care of Alia until she was 3 and a 1/2.
Thanks very much- and keep up the great posts!
Very cute pictures.
I'm not sure how old Taylor is, but please please do not worry about her not crawling. So very very normal! One of my bio boys didn't even think about crawling until he was 9 months and didn't walk until he was 14 months.
Remember for every three months the children are in the baby house they are suppose to be 1 month delayed. They catch up quickly as you can see Taylor is doing.
My Sadie who we brought home from Karaganda at 8 1/2 months actually started scooting before she even sat up, so they are all different.
However with all of that said, it's only natural as parents to be concerned. I've been that way with all three of children about this or that.....founded or unfounded and it doesn't stop as they get older, only changes (smile).
I saw that someone said something about Kaz pottery. Oh my....I brought home in my carry on, 10 plates, a platter, a tea pot, 10 cups and two bowls. I fell in love with one of the patterns, each hand made so each piece a little different. I thought it would be nice to eat with on special occassions or just once a month or so and as she grew up each time we would eat with it we could talk about our time in Kaz. We have a big extended family which is why I bought 10. I also found a minature teapot and minature cups and bowls (I only bought two of each) that match that we can have a tea party with.
