A good day

Today we arrived at the baby house at 10am. We dressed Taylor and made our way to the play room. When we got there, Annette and Marwan were there with their daughter and we decided to join them. Now, the baby house has no air conditioning and the play room always has its windows closed until we open them, so this a very, and I mean very, hot room. With 8 people in there it seemed even hotter! We played in there for about a little over an hour, giving Taylor time to play on her back, belly, and guess what! She sat on her own today! We have to help her sit up but the fact that she can sit on her own is great!

Taylor is a very talkative little girl and Tony swears she says "Dada." I however, am a little jealous as it will be a while until she says "mama." Taylor's favorite toy is Tony's glasses! I find it hilarious. She reaches for them and then rips them off his head only to throw them about.

We walked around outside - which was very nice because the sun was hiding and there was a nice breeze. She did not fall asleep today but when we were leaving she seemed very upset. This is good, we want her to miss us when we are gone!

We also went to the toy store today. Tony was in heaven! The prices for things here are outrageous! For a stuffed badger (yes we bought it!) was $24 USD! Unbelievable! The prices for strollers is even worse! We did however manage to find a drum (Yep, Tony has already begun the loud toys!), a music rattle, and some cups. This will be great as Taylor seems to be getting bored with the little amount of toys we have.

So heres what we (the parents) have been up to when we are not with little Taylor. Last night we went out to dinner with Annette and Marwan. We were officially on our own as we had no translator to help us get a table. We got seated and the waitress spoke a little English. She tried so hard to help us. When we were ready for the bill we asked for the check and instead got "chek chek" a Kazakh desert! It is a puffed rice and honey bar, kinda of like a not so great tasting rice krispies treat! Needless to say, we had a blast and you can bet that we were still talking about it this morning!

To the families reading this that have questions:
As far as Taylor being "chosen for us," I am unsure as to how this happens. Our coordinator was shown children before we got there and she helped to chose the one they thought we would be willing to adopt. As far as Taylor's history, we were told as much as they knew. We received all of her medical history (that they were aware of) and as much history about the mother that was known.

Thanks for the comments and questions everyone! This is the second best highlight of our day (Taylor is the first!)

Taylor is adorable!!

When we were in Karaganda I was amazed at how some things could be so incredibly inexpensive while other things (usually American products) were completely outrageous!!

Glad you are enjoying your time there. Once you are home it will seem like only a distant dream. Take lots of pictues and journal as much as you can! love hearing the little details. Kristan (from a.com)

We are again following your blog with great interest. We did a little calculating. To match your time frame from the time you applied for adoption we should be traveling by October 31. I don't think we'll make it. Our home study took too long. We still hope to travel by the end of the year.

On another note, we were so impressed by the cute chubbiness of your little Taylor. She seems to well-cared for. Her little arms are so cute. It's one of the things that make us excited about Kazakhstan.

What are prices like in Kazakhstan? How many tenge is a gallon of milk, for example? According to xe.com 1 USD = 121.145 Tenge. Did you need to exchange money or do they accept US dollars?

We're so glad that you're bonding well with Taylor, wh is extremely cute, by the way. We're enjoying looking at the pictures and keeping up with your news!

We're still waiting on our new I-171 for Kaz and found out on Monday (2 months after filing the I-824) that the CIS office in Atlanta "misplaced" our application. Hopefully, they'll get things together and get our form to us soon so that we can submit our new dossier.

While we're waiting, we're learning a lot from your experience. We're so happy you're sharing it with us and others.

I am glad that Taylor sat up on her own. And even better is that she gets upset when you leave. Thats a sign that she is comfortable with you guys. I am so proud for you. One thing I'm finding very hard is how can you handle only seeing her for two hours a day. That must drive you absolutely nuts. Hang in there , very soon it will be 24/7.
She seems to melt right in both of your arms. What a beyond this world feeling. I bet she is so excited every day to see both of you. There is no possible way I can tell you what a wonderful life you both have ahead of you. I already have her pictured playing with Tommy , pulling his tail and
smiling. She sure does seem like a happy baby. You two will make two wonderful parents. You can rest assured that God will look after the three of you in the pursuit of your wonderful life together. When I look at Taylor I can only imagine what you felt the first time you saw her. She definitely by her photos has a personality that would humble your heart at first sight. I dont know who picked her for you but they are truly a genious. God Bless both of you And I will talk to you soon.

Love
Grandpa

Hey, you better check into your replacement plan for glasses. Rest assured this won't be the only pair of glasses that will end up broken, bent and crooked. Speaking from experience of course!!She is really adorable. You are all so lucky to have each other. This bond you are all creating will be one to be remembered always. Cranky days are here again. Good luck! I wish you all the best and can't wait to see you again. "Hi Taylor! Love you." From your favorite aunt!! Hehe! Love you all.
